Kiss backlit by the sunset - Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

Windy wedding day at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island

I’ve often been to Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island for engagement and family pictures. It’s a beautiful location with lots of centuries live oak trees covered in moss near the Waccamaw River. This day was my first time photographing an actual wedding at this venue, so I was excited about it. It was also great working again with Michelle from Stunning and Brilliant Events. For some reason, this particular Saturday, April 9th, was one of the coldest and windiest days in Myrtle Beach for months. With the wedding and reception both outside, I was a little worried …

Touching foreheads in front of the ocean - Pawleys Island

Rainy wedding day at Pawleys Plantation with a first look on the beach

First look on the beach in Pawleys Island Lauren was so excited about the pictures for her December wedding. When checking the weather a couple of days before, it was forecast to rain all day. She asked me if it would be possible to do a first look with Daniel, her fiance, and some pictures on the beach in Pawleys Island before the wedding. I had the day open, so I was happy to do it. I’m glad we were able to do this. It ended up being a beautiful evening on the beach. It even gave me a chance …

Bride and groom looking at each other framed by a old oak in the background - Pawleys Plantation

Beautiful sunset on the golf course at Pawleys Plantation

I always love Fall weddings at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club. It’s so lovely this time of year without the heat and humidity. Matthew and Taylor were a fun and relaxed wedding couple with a small bridal party of the groom’s brothers and the bride’s sister. They had my photo booth at this wedding, so I arrived about an hour early to help my wife set everything up. They had a custom backdrop with a wood lattice and some beautiful foliage. I ended up hanging my gold backdrop behind the lattice; this hid the wall in the background and …

Brother with his sisters and dogs - Huntington Beach State Park

My favorite Myrtle Beach family pictures from the first half of 2021

2021 has been one of my busiest years ever with family pictures in Myrtle Beach. I’ve been referring so many people to my photography friends, but most of them are booked up as well. After last year, everyone is ready to get out of the house and have some fun on the beach. I really hope Myrtle Beach can keep this up and we have a great next year as well! During my busy summer season, I’m taking family portraits almost every day, in lots of different locations around the Myrtle Beach area. While I can’t post pictures from every …

Worth every shot - Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

Maternity portraits for my previous wedding couple at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club

I always love taking portraits for Ornelie and Matt. I did photography for their African themed wedding in Raleigh a few years ago. Next, their one year anniversary portraits at the Conway Riverwalk. Now, early this year, I took their maternity portraits under the beautiful mossy oaks at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawleys Island. Ornelie and Matt asked me to hold off for a few months on posting pictures of their pregnancy. They mentioned they had a difficult time getting pregnant and they wanted to make an official announcement about it before I posted any pictures. After she …

Beautiful ceremony by the river - Kimbels at Wachesaw Plantation

Spring wedding at Wachesaw Plantation with a large bridal party, fun dancing, and sparkler exit

Annika and Ronnie were one of the many couples in Myrtle Beach that had to move their wedding from its original date because of Covid-19. They even had to change from their original venue to Wachesaw Plantation. Wachesaw Plantation is located a little south of Myrtle Beach in the Murrells Inlet area. This venue change ended up being for the best. The Kimbels in Wachesaw Plantation is one of the best venues in Myrtle Beach for photography. Sunlight filtering through the moss on the bank of the Waccamaw River is one of my favorite backgrounds for pictures. I started out …

Holding hands under the moss with clubhouse in the background - Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

A great start to 2021 with maternity portraits at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club

Thinking back on 13 years of photography in Myrtle Beach It’s hard to believe it’s 2021 already. I’m entering into my 13th year as a full time photographer in the Myrtle Beach area. It doesn’t seem like that long ago, I was taking my first family beach pictures with a Nikon D80 and 50mm f1.8 lens. I still had a lot to learn at that time, but I always had a good eye for light and I was good with people so I got a lot of great shots. Thinking back to the most important knowledge I had before I …

HDR picture of beautiful ceremony location on the Wacammaw River - Kimbel's - Wachesaw Plantation

Beautiful riverfront wedding at the Kimbels in Wachesaw Plantation

It’s great to finish out the 2020 season with some amazing weddings. Even though the weddings have been a little smaller this year because of Covid, I’ve had some of my favorites. The Kimbels restaurant in Wachesaw Plantation is one of the most beautiful locations in the Myrtle Beach area. Especially if you are looking for trees and moss instead of the beach. The Kimbels ceremony location, overlooking the Waccamaw River, is a beautiful spot for portraits at sunset. There is also a picturesque oak allee surrounded by large moss covered live oak trees on either side. When I arrived …

Portrait of bride and groom looking into each other eyes - Litchfield Country Club

Rainy wedding day at Litchfield Country Club with a beautiful sunset

During the summertime in Myrtle Beach, we have very frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The day can look like it’s going to be great, then suddenly, we will get a downpour. We also have the opposite happen, where the weather forecast shows rain all day, then the sky will clear up at sunset, and it will be beautiful. When I have a client scheduled for sunset pictures, I always tell them not to get discouraged and just wait as long as possible before canceling. Of course, at a wedding, we have to make the best of things, rain or shine. For this …

Bride looking into the eyes of the groom behind the castle - Atalaya Castle - Huntington Beach State Park

Rainy summer wedding day at the Atalaya Castle in Huntington Beach State Park

It’s great to be getting back into wedding season in the Myrtle Beach area. I was a little worried that work would be very slow this year. This summer has been jam-packed with family beach pictures and even small weddings. It seems like most of my weddings, for the rest of the year, will take place with just some social distancing modifications. Some have had to reduce the number of guests, and some have moved the receptions outside to comply with venue requirements. So far, all my weddings have taken place without any issues. For Rylan and Sarah’s wedding, the …
