Windy wedding day at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island

I’ve often been to Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island for engagement and family pictures. It’s a beautiful location with lots of centuries live oak trees covered in moss near the Waccamaw River. This day was my first time photographing an actual wedding at this venue, so I was excited about it. It was also great working again with Michelle from Stunning and Brilliant Events. For some reason, this particular Saturday, April 9th, was one of the coldest and windiest days in Myrtle Beach for months. With the wedding and reception both outside, I was a little worried about how things would turn out.

When I first arrived, I went up to the bride’s room to get some detail shots and getting ready pictures. Jennifer didn’t have a lot she wanted special pictures of, so I took a few of the rings and bouquets. I suggested doing a first look with all the bridesmaids, and she loved that idea. We wanted to do it under the old oaks on the entrance roadway. The girls had their dresses and hair blowing everywhere with the strong wind, but we got some great shots.

All the groomsmen were having a great time just sitting outside the clubhouse, drinking, and cheering for the golfers. I took them out for some pictures under the mossy oaks, and they had a lot of fun. I especially like the shot of all the guys picking up the groom in front of the clubhouse.

Ceremony under the oaks

They have a beautiful spot near the golf course for the wedding ceremony at Caledonia. Thankfully this area is surrounded by trees and is a little distance from the water, so it’s a lot more sheltered from the wind. You can see how happy the bride and groom are during their vows and when walking back down the aisle after the first kiss.

Before the ceremony, I looked around for a nice sheltered spot for family pictures on the golf course. So right after, we went to this spot for family pictures and more with the bridal party. I always love having a huge bridal party for photos. Everyone was so cold and wind-blown that I could not get as many pictures as I would have liked, but I think we still got some fun ones.

Next, I took Jennifer and Nolan for some portraits on the golf course. Jennifer was getting so cold during the pictures, but she stayed strong, and we got some great shots. She was so happy to finally get by the warm fire, get a sweater on, and eat some of the food during the cocktail hour. They were both fun and easy-going and didn’t let the weather that day get them down at all.

Sunset pictures with the bride and groom

I thought the pictures I had with the bride and groom were all we would get, but I kept an eye out just in case the sun poked out right before sunset. Boy, did it ever! The wind calmed down, and the sky became beautiful. It was still cold, but I pulled Jennifer and Nolan away from dinner, and we went down by the Waccamaw River for sunset pictures. We ended up getting some beautiful shots. You would never know how cold it was looking at that warm glow from the sunset. We even got some beautiful images on the oak-covered roadway with the warm sunlight hitting the moss in the background.

Dancing under the tent

After the sunset pictures, we went back to the reception under the tent. Even though it was cold, once everyone got to partying on the dance floor, I don’t think they felt it anymore. All the guests had a great time, and I got a lot of fun dancing pictures before I left. Please let me know if you are planning a wedding at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. I would be happy to help!
