Bride walking down the downtown street with bridesmaids - Charleston, SC

Wedding in downtown Charleston with a reception at the Daniel Island Club

Since it’s my slow time of the year, I’ve been doing some updates to my website. Especially for some of my past weddings in the Charleston area. This was a beautiful wedding from back in 2013 that needed an updated blog post. I added in some ceremony pictures that were missing and did some extra adjustments as well. I was looking at the photo metadata to see what equipment I used back then, these were all taken with a Nikon D3 and Nikon D800. I’m still using the same Nikon 85mm f1.4 lens I used back then. So the main …

How to do an unforgettable surprise marriage proposal in Myrtle Beach

I photograph a number of surprise marriage proposals each year in the Myrtle Beach area, and so far everyone has said yes to the proposal! From taking pictures in the pouring rain to having the couple’s kids run out after to congratulate them, I’ve captured some unforgettable memories in 2020. I get a lot of emails asking for help in setting this up, so I thought I would make a blog post with my usual recommendations, and how I photograph the proposal and engagement pictures after. At the end of the post are about 50 pictures from a recent beautiful …

Bridesmaids and bride holding the puppies - 21 Main Events - North Myrtle Beach

Wedding at 21 Main Events at North Beach with puppies in place of bouquets!

I met Jenna and Justin at last January’s Wedding Showcase event in Myrtle Beach. We briefly discussed their upcoming wedding on October 2nd, taking place in the courtyard at the 21 Main Events at North Beach wedding venue. January was such a short time ago, however a lot of things have changed since then. I will be at the Wedding Showcase again next year, I’m sure things will be a little bit different with social distancing and masks, but I hope lots of people come and have a good time. The bride loved some of my previous pictures from 21 …

Bride touching grooms face under the columns - 21 Main Events

Morning wedding in the courtyard at 21 Main Events – North Myrtle Beach

Wedding Preparations The courtyard at 21 Main Events in North Myrtle Beach is always a beautiful place for a wedding ceremony. This October wedding, with Kristal and Edgar, was a little unusual for me because it was held at 10am in the morning. I was a little worried about the strong sun during the ceremony and for the pictures after. We ended up having some clouds which helped during the ceremony. I also convinced Kristal and Edgar to come back that evening for sunset pictures with just the two of them. My wife was also with me at this wedding, …

Kiss in the sunset with a great balanced composition to the picture Pawleys Plantation

Beautiful sunset pictures with a happy bride and groom at Pawleys Plantation

Pawleys Plantation in Pawleys Island, SC is still one of my favorite wedding locations. The staff is great and everything is always well organized. Sunsets are also beautiful in front of the clubhouse and out of the golf course itself. Kiely and Carson, the bride and groom, had some of the best smiles I’ve had with a wedding couple. In almost every picture, especially when they looked at each other, they had huge natural smiles and looked very happy. This always makes it easy to get great pictures. If you want to skip down and just see the sunset pictures …

Dusk at the Ocean Club - Grande Dunes Ocean Club - Myrtle Beach

Laci and Justin’s May wedding on the Ocean Club Balcony with a emotional first look

I had a very busy May this year with 4 weddings at The Ocean Club in the Grande Dunes. I already featured the first of my May weddings in a blog post here. I talked about some new flash equipment and my photo booth, so please check it out. Laci and Justin’s wedding was held on an unusually hot day for the month of May. Thankfully, down by the ocean, you almost always get a nice breeze. I started out with my usual pictures of all the dresses hanging in the beautiful windows upstairs in the clubhouse. I also got …

Looking at each other under the moss Caledonia Golf and Fish Club

Engagement pictures at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island

I had a fun winter engagement session at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island this past weekend. This is a beautiful former site of a southern rice plantation located along the Waccamaw River. The best feature here is the entrance roadway. It’s surrounded by centuries old live oak trees with their moss covered branches overhanging the roadway. I’ve noticed for engagement pictures in Myrtle Beach, couples are usually looking for either beach pictures, or for an area with a lot of large trees where the sunlight can filter through the moss. Caledonia Golf & Fish Club certainly …

Couple having fun with their dogs Vereen Memorial Gardens

Fun engagement portraits with the dogs at Vereen Memorial Gardens

This was my first time taking engagement portraits at the Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens in Little River, SC. This area has a lot of hiking trails and boardwalks over the salt marshes. It is located right next to the Intracoastal Waterway. This couple wanted to bring their two dogs to the engagement pictures so it’s great that the Vereen Memorial Gardens is very dog friendly, we saw a lot of people walking around with their pets. I wasn’t very familiar with this location, so we started out the session walking around a bit with the dogs and finding some great …

Kiss in front of the lights at sunset 21 Main Events at North Beach

Intimate wedding in the courtyard at 21 Main Events at North Beach

This was my first time photographing a wedding ceremony in the beautiful courtyard at 21 Main Events at North Beach. This restaurant is located near the North Beach Plantation towers in North Myrtle Beach. This was a small and intimate wedding ceremony without a bridal party. The bride didn’t want a lot getting ready pictures so I just arrived shortly before the ceremony time. I still had time to get some pretty shots of the location such as a panorama of the courtyard area and pictures of the elegant ballroom decorations. The ceremony was held shortly before sunset time and …

Bride and groom from Colombia by the ocean with a pretty sunset Grande Dunes Ocean Club Myrtle Beach

Beautiful Ocean Club wedding with a bride and groom from Colombia

I really enjoyed this recent wedding for Camilio and Natalia at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach. The bride and groom are both originally from the country of Colombia just like my wife. In fact the groom was from the city of Bogota, the same city my wife is from. I spent a month last year staying with my wife’s family in Bogota, I made a recent blog post about my trip here. In fact, if you visit my Photo Booth at a wedding, I have a real Colombian sombrero and poncho you can try on that I …
