Wedding ceremony at a chapel with the reception at Kimbels in Wachesaw Plantation

This was my second wedding this year at the beautiful Wachesaw Plantation in Murrells Inlet, SC. Some of my favorite wedding pictures in my galleries have been from Wachesaw Plantation. Symmes, the bride, began her preparations at Stox & Co salon in Litchfield. I met them there to get some pictures of the hair and makeup prep and just some fun pictures of the bridesmaids hanging out before getting dressed. At the salon, they actually have a large private yoga studio area, where the bridesmaids were able to get dressed. I walked around and took some nice pictures of the …

Sunset engagement pictures at Mansfield Plantation, Georgetown SC

My recent couple was looking for a plantation type setting for their engagement pictures with a lot of moss and old oak trees. They got a nice quick response from calling Mansfield Plantation in Georgetown. There was a reasonable $160 charge to do engagement pictures on the plantation grounds so they decided to do the session there. I’ve done many engagement sessions in downtown Georgetown, but I’ve never shot portraits at Mansfield Plantation. I’m always excited to try a new location so I was happy to go, even with the long drive from Myrtle Beach. The location is a bit difficult …

Beautiful wedding at Upper Mill Plantation

I had a lot of fun photographing another recent wedding at Upper Mill Plantation in Bucksville, SC. This wedding’s bride was also a bridesmaid in a wedding I photographed a few months back. The bride from that wedding was a bridesmaid in this one as well, you can view her bridal portraits in a post here. Hopefully they weren’t too sick of me after shooting both of them in two weddings and in bridal portraits! There are a lot of pretty spots at Upper Mill Plantation for wedding pictures. We started out doing portraits of the bridesmaids and groomsmen separately …

Bridal portraits at Upper Mill Plantation in Bucksville

I had a lot of fun shooting bridal portraits at Upper Mill Plantation this past spring. This bride and groom just got married at the plantation on Saturday, so I’m now able to post some of these pictures. Upper Mill Plantation has a lot of pretty photography spots. We started out walking to the pond near the entrance to the area. This marsh area has lots of moss covered oak trees growing from water. The combination of the sunset reflecting off the water and the light filtering through the trees is a really beautiful backdrop for a bridal portrait. Next …

Golf Club wedding at Pawleys Plantation with a first look and great sunset

The Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club has been one of my favorite wedding locations for many years now. They have some new event staff at Pawleys Plantation I met for the first time. They were very friendly and everything went smoothly with the ceremony and reception. They also remodeled the ballroom a while back with a more modern look and nicer colors. I worked again with DJ Scott and Company, Benjy Simmons and Elegant Occasions, some of my favorite wedding vendors.  You can check out more on my recommended vendor list. This couple decided to do a first look to get most of the family and …

Beautiful afternoon wedding at Wachesaw Plantation with a horse drawn carriage

I always love going to Wachesaw Plantation for a wedding, the oak trees on the Waccamaw River make a great backdrop for pictures, especially at sunset. It’s been a long time since I’ve photographed a wedding with a horse and carriage, it always makes for some really great pictures. I guess riding in on a carriage is the type of thing you really have to be at a plantation or garden style location like Wachesaw for it to work. I got the business card of the carriage company so I’ll add it to my favorite vendors page, maybe it will give some brides …

Wedding at the Carriage House in Magnolia Plantation, Charleston

This was my second wedding I’ve had this fall at Magnolia Plantation, this time it was at the Carriage House lawn area. It’s nice to expand out a bit to doing some weddings in Charleston, I hope to keep it up in the future. I think it would be really nice to do something in downtown Charleston eventually, but if I don’t I’m happy shooting around the beach.

For this wedding it was a pretty cloudy day most of the time, I didn’t get as many shots with sunlight coming through the trees as I would have liked. The clouds actually worked out well for the ceremony because it softened what would have been some pretty harsh sunlight directly on the couple. Like at most weddings, we got a little rushed and didn’t have time to make it around to cool areas like the bamboo forest. When I have a really nice area I’d love to have a good 45-60 minutes with the couple, but I know that usually can’t happen. Still I thought everything turned out really nice.

By the way, if you use the Storyboard plugin like I’ve started using for blog pictures, they just updated to version 2.0.  It’s got some nice features like watermarks and on the fly cropping.  I love doing a storyboard style layout now, it’s lets me fit so many more pictures in a post. Let me know if you enjoy some of these below.

First wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC

This was the first time I’ve been to the Magnolia Plantation area in Charleston for a wedding. I’ve done some engagement pictures here, but never a full wedding. The first time to a new site is always exciting, I do a lot of looking around trying to find some spots with good lighting and background details. We also had a golf cart driver that took us around to some popular spots.

The reception was in the conservatory which is a really cool spot. It’s an indoor garden area with a small section with tables for the guests. The couple was pretty flexible so we even spent a few minutes experimenting with a few nighttime, off camera lighting shots in the garden area.  I was putting a flash with umbrella in the background to give some highlights to the foliage behind them. Experimenting is always fun if there is a little extra time.  I’m looking forward to my wedding in a couple of weeks at this location and I hope I get some in the future as well.  As always please comment below if you enjoy these pictures.
