Jess and Adam’s springtime ceremony on the patio by the palm trees and pool at the Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

We had a hot and windy day at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach for this May wedding. I started out getting some great shots with Wing Wong of Salon and Spa 18 doing the bride’s hair. I also got to work with Luminous Event Films for the first time, he was great to work with as well. It’s always nice when the photographer and videographer can get along really well. Broadway Jake was the DJ, Croissants Bistro and Bakery made the cake, and Flowers in the Forest did the beautiful bouquets and flowers. I have all these …

Fun but windy wedding day at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club & a new photo booth

It’s great to be back at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach, this was my first wedding of 2018 at this location. It’s also great to be working again with some of the best wedding vendors in Myrtle Beach. The wedding planner Sarah McCall of Stunning and Brilliant Events, DJ Ryan Robinson of Globaltruth Entertainment and Samantha Huff at the Ocean Club. I’m making this blog post in the middle of Hurricane Florence so I’m really hoping my power stays on, it’s only a category 1 now so I’m not too worried.  While it wasn’t hurricane force winds for …

Wedding day photography on a windy day at the remodeled Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

This is my first time photographing a wedding at the remodeled Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach. It always looked nice, but they did make some changes that give a lot more space inside the ballroom and dining area. They completely removed the fireplace which really opens up the area for a larger number of guests and more tables. They also painted everything, put down new carpets, lights and other things.  One of the changes I especially noticed, because I do a lot of pictures there, is the new doors at the front. The glass doors really do make a …

Windy wedding day with a beautiful bride on the Veranda of the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

I’m in my really slow time of the year now, so I thought I would go back to one of my fall weddings I didn’t have time to post yet on my blog. This wedding was at one of my most frequented locations, the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach. This couple was extremely easy going and just happy and having fun the whole day. I think it helped that it was a small bridal party which always makes things a little less stressful. I loved the bride’s dress, it had a lot of unique detailing up top, I …

Cold and windy day for engagement pictures at the Myrtle Beach State Park

There are always a couple of winter months where no one is looking to have portraits done outdoors or on the beach. During those months I always have some things to do like wedding album layouts and catching up with clients about orders from the previous year, but it’s nice to be getting busy taking fresh pictures again. I seem to be getting an early start this year with not only some engagement sessions but even a wedding this coming weekend.

The engagement session I’m highlighting this time was for a couple with an upcoming wedding I’m photographing this summer. It was a very cold and windy day at the Myrtle Beach State Park. I guess because the ocean temperature is so low right now, it seemed much colder on the beach then it did a little bit inland. Thankfully I brought along a sweatshirt, but I was still really cold even with that on. As cold as I was I felt really bad for the couple because they were just freezing in what they were wearing, I felt a little guilty in my sweatshirt. They wanted to go for it anyway, and I think we managed to get some really good pictures even with the wind and cold. In fact, the sky had an unusual look that day that I think gave some nice interest to the pictures, and we were the only ones on the beach which was nice. I guess a girl knows she has a pretty good guy if he will stay in a good mood through the cold and even three different outfit changes :) It makes me look forward to the wedding knowing a couple is easy going and will make the best of things.

Nice evening for engagement portraits at the Myrtle Beach State Park

I’ve been doing a lot of family pictures recently, it was nice to have some engagement portraits instead. This was a fun couple that seemed to be really having a good time.  From what I remember it was a really windy evening, but actually this couple made it pretty easy.  I only had to worry about the hair in one direction :)  It’s been windy almost every evening recently, but as long as you turn people into the wind so the hair is blowing back it’s not a big deal.  The only time it really gets bad is if the wind is blowing so much that it causes the sand to blow across the surface.  If sand is blowing in people eyes there isn’t very much you can do.  So far this week has been pretty good as far as the weather and the wind.  I hope you enjoy the pictures below, if you do please remember to let me know if the comments.
