Springtime country wedding at Wildberry Farm with an outdoor ceremony – Marion, SC

This was my second time photographing a country wedding at Wildberry Farm near Marion, SC. Since this wedding was in late spring, the flowers in the garden were blooming and the grass and trees were all green. These were things I missed out on at my earlier winter wedding there.  Instead of having the ceremony …

My first time photographing a wedding at The Ivy Place in Lancaster, SC

The Ivy Place in Lancaster, SC is the farthest I’ve traveled so far to photograph a wedding, a little over 3 hours each way. I was a bit tired on the drive home, but it really wasn’t a bad trip. It was biker week in Myrtle Beach, so I’m actually glad my wedding was out of the area. …

Wedding ceremony at the Holiday Cottage gates in Brookgreen Gardens with a large bridal party

I was meeting with some clients today that are having an upcoming wedding at the Brookgreen Gardens Holiday Cottage area. I’ve done a number of weddings at this location, so I was showing them my most recent one as an example, even though it was from last summer 2012. I realized that I never posted about this wedding on my blog. I think it was just my busy time of the year and a lot of weddings miss out on a storyboard. However, with this one in particular, I realized I really needed to put a post about it.

If you notice at the top of my blog, you can select a drop down menu of weddings locations. One of the selections is the Brookgreen Gardens area. Checking out this category, I realized the last wedding listed was from over 2 years ago, so I really needed to update this category with a new post. So that is what I’m doing now. This couple’s wedding reception was at another location outside the gardens, so I’m just going to highlight some of their pictures from the Holiday Cottage itself, and then from the garden gates near the cottage where the ceremonies are held. I hope you enjoy them.

First wedding at Magnolia Plantation in Charleston, SC

This was the first time I’ve been to the Magnolia Plantation area in Charleston for a wedding. I’ve done some engagement pictures here, but never a full wedding. The first time to a new site is always exciting, I do a lot of looking around trying to find some spots with good lighting and background details. We also had a golf cart driver that took us around to some popular spots.

The reception was in the conservatory which is a really cool spot. It’s an indoor garden area with a small section with tables for the guests. The couple was pretty flexible so we even spent a few minutes experimenting with a few nighttime, off camera lighting shots in the garden area.  I was putting a flash with umbrella in the background to give some highlights to the foliage behind them. Experimenting is always fun if there is a little extra time.  I’m looking forward to my wedding in a couple of weeks at this location and I hope I get some in the future as well.  As always please comment below if you enjoy these pictures.

Bridal portraits in Pawleys Island, SC

A couple of weeks ago I was able to do some very pretty bridal portraits for a bride getting married this weekend.  We set everything up on just a few weeks notice but I had the weekend open and was glad I was able to fit them in.  This is a pretty unique location in a private home area a bit south of Pawleys Island, SC which is about 30 minutes south of the Myrtle Beach area.  The wedding planner knew one of the residents in the area and they allowed us to do some pictures around their home as well as down near the Intracoastal Waterway.  I thought they all turned out really beautifully and wanted to share some below.  I especially liked some of the sunset pictures down near the water with the sun spilling through the oak trees.  If properly exposed, shots backlit by the sun can be very beautiful.  I hope you enjoy these below.

Bridal Portraits, Members Club at the Grande Dunes, Myrtle Beach

I did some beautiful bridal portraits after my Indian wedding at the Grande Dunes.  The members club is a great spot with the golf course out back. It was a little different to do the bridal portraits after the wedding, but it worked out well.  I’m learning how to use fill flash more effectively for example in the shot of the bride looking out over the golf course.  It was very dark in the area where she was standing compared to the background in the bright sun.  If I had just exposed for her, the background would be blown out and white.  However, exposing somewhat for the background and filling in the bride with some flash, gives very nice results. Of course you can never beat the light coming in from a big window.  I hope you enjoy some of them below.
