Summer wedding under the oaks at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club

June was such a busy month this year with weddings and family pictures. Even when I don’t have time to post to my blog, you can always see my latest pictures on Facebook or Instagram. I wanted to share this recent wedding from Caledonia Golf and Fish Club because it’s such a beautiful and unique location.

Wedding Preparations

When I arrived, I met with Erin in the bride’s room upstairs in the clubhouse. She had a few simple details she wanted pictures of, such as the wedding invitation, rings, and flowers. As well as some cute rhinestone-covered custom Vans she wore to the ceremony. I also walked around the reception tent and ceremony area to take table details and pictures of the beautiful ceremony spot under the mossy oaks.

Erin only had one bridesmaid for the ceremony. I realized later on why she chose this. She had such a massive group of girlfriends that it would have been impossible to have them all in the wedding party. I still treated the group like they were bridesmaids. We did a first look with Erin and the girls as well as toasts with them before the ceremony. When the groom arrived, the best man and himself were already dressed and ready. So I just took pictures with them pretending to help with the ties and boutonnieres and just hanging out together in the bar area. It was a sweltering summer day, so I tried not to keep anyone outside for too long at one time.

Ceremony under the mossy oaks

I always love wedding ceremonies under the beautiful moss-covered oaks at Caledonia. You can see how happy and emotional Matt was watching Erin walk down the aisle. I always spin around and capture the groom’s expression when the bride walks toward him. I got some great shots of the cheers and kiss walking back down the aisle after the ceremony. Sometimes those are my favorite pictures. Now that everything is over, the couple can relax and have some fun.

Everyone was melting a bit in the heat during the family pictures, but we still got some beautiful portraits with the family under the mossy oaks and down by the Waccamaw River. Since Erin had such a small “official” bridal party, we got all the family and girlfriends in the background cheering while they kissed. I knew I was taking Erin and Matt out for sunset pictures later, so we held off on photos of the two of them. They enjoyed the end of the cocktail hour and then the first dances and dinner after introductions.

Sunset pictures on the golf course

As it got closer to sunset time, I pulled Erin and Matt away from the reception for sunset pictures on the golf course. There are some beautiful spots nearby the reception tent for photos. After walking over a hill, there is a small lake and a great view of the golf course in the background. Then, going back towards the Waccamaw River, the strong sunset filters through the moss and branches of the trees for a beautiful out of focus background to the portraits.

We finished with the pictures on the entry roadway with all the overhanging oak tree branches covered in moss. There are a lot of stunning locations around Pawleys Island with old oak trees, but nothing quite as unique as the view in Caledonia. After we finished the pictures, they partied for the rest of the evening and had a lot of fun with the live band. I hope you enjoy these pictures. Please let me know if you plan a wedding at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. I would be happy to give you more information.
