My favorite Myrtle Beach family photography from 2022

I can’t believe another year is already over. I’m heading into my 15th year of full-time photography in the Myrtle Beach area. Time sure does fly by. I always post pictures from my favorite family photo sessions on Instagram and Facebook throughout the year. When things slow down, it’s nice to look back and add some favorite photos to my blog.

2022 was a busy year. Looking back, I shot about 87,000 pictures over the year at almost 150 weddings, engagements, and family portrait sessions. I’m very thankful to all the happy clients that chose to use me to capture their special memories in Myrtle Beach. I had some fun senior portrait sessions in the spring, including at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and the Huntington Beach State Park. Some families brought their dogs along for pictures. I always love having the fur babies with the rest of the family for photos. They are part of the family too!

My usual location for family pictures is still the Huntington Beach State Park. I recommend that area because it’s less crowded, especially in the summer. The only issue for 2023 will be Hurricane Ian’s damage to the dunes. The beautiful dunes that used to be in the Pawleys Island area have been partially washed away. You will notice this in some of my last pictures at the end of the gallery. I’ve been adapting to the circumstances and sitting clients, so the background is down the beach instead of directly toward the dunes. I still get a nice look this way, and of course, other parts of the state park, including the ocean, are just as pretty as always. By next summer, I hope the dunes have begun to recover, and the sea oats start to grow back.

I’ve had several repeat clients this year. The family that did some superhero pictures on the beach last year came back for another fun family session at the Myrtle Beach State Park. One of my favorite families, whose wedding I shot years ago, now comes back for family pictures each year. They like to try a different location yearly and seem to have a new little guy each time! We had already done beach pictures, the Conway Riverwalk, and mossy oaks at Caledonia. So she asked if we could take photos in the cotton field at Upper Mill Plantation. This sounded like a great idea, and we scheduled it. However, I got a call that they were already harvesting the cotton, so we had to make a quick reschedule. We barely made it in time. The harvester was running in the field as we took the pictures in the one small area left. If we had been a day later, we would have missed out. I especially loved the portraits of their three little boys sitting together in the cotton.

I also had many more special sessions, including an older couple celebrating their anniversary with romantic pictures, maternity portraits with the pups, lots of happy and not-so-happy kids, and much more! I hope you enjoy these family pictures. 2023 will be another great year, and I hope to capture many happy memories for families visiting Myrtle Beach. Please let me know if you want to schedule a session.
