First kiss - Grande Dunes Ocean Club - Myrtle Beach

Windy wedding day with a beautiful bride on the Veranda of the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

I’m in my really slow time of the year now, so I thought I would go back to one of my fall weddings I didn’t have time to post yet on my blog. This wedding was at one of my most frequented locations, the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach. This couple was extremely easy going and just happy and having fun the whole day. I think it helped that it was a small bridal party which always makes things a little less stressful. I loved the bride’s dress, it had a lot of unique detailing up top, I …

Wedding location on the grass behind the Hilton in Myrtle Beach

Fun wedding on the lawn at the Hilton in Myrtle Beach

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve photographed a wedding at the Hilton in Myrtle Beach. Using the cool new search box on my website menu to the left, I put in Hilton and realized I hadn’t made a blog post for that location since 2010. By the way, my entire site is now running on Wordpress so you can search for anything throughout my site. It’s really nice if you want to see pictures from a particular location, try out some searches and see what you find. You might have noticed that my website has gone through some …

Winter wedding at Wildberry Farm in Marion, SC

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Wildberry Farm in Marion. It’s very similar to another old farm location I loved from a previous wedding.  Wildberry Farm is a very pretty area with a small wedding chapel, house for the bride to get ready in, and a very large reception area.  They have a couple of old barns that also make for some good photo spots. It’s unusual for me to have a wedding in the middle of January, I’m glad the weather turned out so nice even if it was a little cold in the evening. The pictures in this blog …

Bride and groom sitting together of golf course greens

Early afternoon wedding photography at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club with a fun couple

Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club is one of my favorite locations that I photograph weddings at often.  The staff is very friendly and helpful and the site is great for photography. There isn’t much I can say that I haven’t said in some of my earlier blog posts about the site.  This wedding ceremony was in the early afternoon, so we had some harsh sunlight during the ceremony, but it wasn’t too bad.  The golf course behind the clubhouse is a great place for a wedding and for pictures after, it is nice to do everything in the same area …

Bride and father walking towards ceremony on the Ocean Club terrace

Wedding on the Terrace at the Grande Dunes Ocean Club in Myrtle Beach

The Ocean Club at the Grande Dunes is one of my most frequented wedding locations. I really appreciate that they have me on their vendor list because I often have clients contact me after seeing the list.  Actually, the Grande Dunes preferred vendor list is a pretty good one, they seem to list some of the really good photographers and vendors in the area.  I heard years ago they made vendors pay to be included on this list, but it hasn’t been that way in a long time.  You can never trust a paid vendor list so I’m glad they don’t do that …

Pawleys Plantation wedding with a Beauty and the Beast themed reception

I always love going to Pawleys Plantation Golf Club for a wedding, it’s a very pretty area and the staff there is very nice.  I really loved the bride’s dress at this wedding, she had a Beauty and the Beast Disney theme to the dress and wedding reception.  You can see some pictures of the ballroom decorations below.  I recently got a new 14mm prime lens so I was enjoying playing around with some super wide-angle shots of the reception decorations.  Looking through the lens is so wide though I realized I was almost sticking my camera in the cake without realizing it.  It’s not the kind of lens that I will use often, but it’s fun for a few shots here and there.  I also finally got a really big case to carry all my gear. It’s the largest Lowepro rolling case they have.  It looks like a big suitcase, but inside it has dividers for photo gear.  I have my 4 camera bodies, flashes, various lenses etc. all organized together in one case.

The wedding ceremony was a few hours before sunset, so after the bride and groom finished eating I took them back out of the reception for some sunset pictures. When the days start getting longer, most ceremonies will be a while before sunset, so if possible I always try to get the couple out for some sunset pictures when the light is much softer.  At least at locations like Pawleys Plantation with a lot of trees, there is always somewhere to get some shade from the sun.  I hope you enjoy the pictures below, please let me know in the comments below if you do.

Wedding at the Carriage House in Magnolia Plantation, Charleston

This was my second wedding I’ve had this fall at Magnolia Plantation, this time it was at the Carriage House lawn area. It’s nice to expand out a bit to doing some weddings in Charleston, I hope to keep it up in the future. I think it would be really nice to do something in downtown Charleston eventually, but if I don’t I’m happy shooting around the beach.

For this wedding it was a pretty cloudy day most of the time, I didn’t get as many shots with sunlight coming through the trees as I would have liked. The clouds actually worked out well for the ceremony because it softened what would have been some pretty harsh sunlight directly on the couple. Like at most weddings, we got a little rushed and didn’t have time to make it around to cool areas like the bamboo forest. When I have a really nice area I’d love to have a good 45-60 minutes with the couple, but I know that usually can’t happen. Still I thought everything turned out really nice.

By the way, if you use the Storyboard plugin like I’ve started using for blog pictures, they just updated to version 2.0.  It’s got some nice features like watermarks and on the fly cropping.  I love doing a storyboard style layout now, it’s lets me fit so many more pictures in a post. Let me know if you enjoy some of these below.
