Winter wedding at the Creek Club at I’on in Charleston

I always love when I get to make a trip to the Charleston area for a wedding. This wedding was in January, but we had some great weather for the event. This was my first time photographing a wedding at the Creek Club at I’on, a beautiful wedding venue on a creek off the main Wando River in the Mt. Pleasant area. The Creek Club at I’on has many great spots for pictures with a lawn overlooking the marsh, docks down by the water, and a romantic path leading around the edge of the creek. The ballroom was also very elegant, with large windows, high ceilings, and a fireplace.

When first arriving, I met the bride and bridesmaids at their private home on the Isle of Palms, where they were getting ready. I got there just in time to catch the touching up the makeup shots. My wife was helping me as my second photographer that day. She traveled over to the groom’s house, where she took pictures of the groom and groomsmen. Even for a small wedding party, when the bride and groom are getting ready at different locations, it’s great to have two wedding photographers. While she was capturing the guys’ candid moments, I was able to focus on the bride’s details—the rings, the flowers, and portraits of the bride.

Bridal portraits at the Avant Garden Park

The bride wanted to take some bridal portraits and pictures with her bridesmaids before the ceremony. We made a stop at a lake close by the Creek Club at I’on called the Avant Garden Park. This had some lovely views of the lake and a white bridge that made a nice spot for portraits.

Since I was new to the Creek Club venue, when arriving at the clubhouse, I spent some extra time scouting the grounds to find the best angles and took many location shots. I even took some aerial pictures with my drone, which I flew into a tree branch and had a little crash. Thankfully it ended up being fine after I swapped out some propellers.

Outdoor Ceremony on the lawn at the Creek Club at I’on

The Creek Club at I’on has a lovely spot for the ceremony overlooking the marsh with mossy oak trees in the background. Again, it was great having my wife there. I was able to concentrate on the first look with the groom while she got some shots of the bride walking towards all the guests.

After the ceremony we took some portraits in front of the ceremony arch, then took a walk down a path beside the marsh. It was still a little early for the perfect light from the sunset, but I remember it was starting to get cold with the January weather. We went down to the river dock for some pictures with the bride and groom on the water. Finally, we finished up back on the ceremony lawn with the warm glow of the sunset behind them.

Fun Reception in the Ballroom

Finally, everyone went inside for first dances and dinner. It was nice to be warm in the cozy ballroom. The entire group had a great time with the dancing later in the evening. And the reception ended with a private dance with just the bride and groom. I hope you enjoy this look back at another of my 2025 weddings. I’m trying to make shorter posts more often so I can share more of my recent wedding pictures. If you are planning a wedding at the Creek Club at I’on, please let me know. I would be happy to give my thoughts and suggestions.
